The view of the East Mecsek

If you have one hour to feel the atmosphere of the south part of Transdanubia, climb up this new lookout near Pécs.

When you discover a new place the most significant memories usually do not come from the big tourist magnets but the small and intimate experiences.

Tourists who visit the south part of Transdanubia tend to gravitate to Pécs and its popular neighborhood just like Orfű, Harkány bath or the vine producing area of Villány.

It is understood but it is worth noting that there are many other remarkable spots here too.

For instance, here is this recently built lookout in the woods of the East Mecsek mountains on a smaller peek called Kövestető, between the villages Hosszúhetény és Zobákpuszta.

Alright, it is not the Himalayas, not even the Alps, but you can get a beautiful view of this gentle, lovely, semi Mediterranean landscape.

To climb the lookout you do not need special boots or hiking outfit. You can leave your car near the main rod at the hotel, then walk 500-600 meters to the structure.

When you are up there, in front of you, to the north, you can see Zengő, the highest point of the Mecsek mountains, to the south there is a picturesque flatland to the Villány mountains. Down at your feet there a former quarry, and mountains, trees and peace around you.

Anyway this is the “wilderness” of the Mecsek, numerous beautiful hiking paths can be found in the woods.
