The biggest Central European lake Balaton is locally called “Hungarian Sea”, but at the moment it is definitely not a sea, because of its dramatic depth – which is only 3,2 meters on average.
Especially the south shore is shallow, it is like a giant children’s pool, where you can walk hundreds of meters into the lake the, and the water is still bellow waistline.
In addition, this summer the water level is far bellow the average, so these days some beaches look like this:
Anyway, the authorities say that, apart from this twist, the quality of the water is fine.
