Transporters will be demonstrating for an indefinite period starting on January 26.

On 26 January 2026, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro Members the Association of Transporters will close all freight lanes at border crossing points with Schengen countries due to demonstrations – reported by the Hungarian police.

Based on announcements by the transport associations Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro , a demonstration will begin at 12 noon on Monday, 26 January 2026, for an indefinite period. On the Hungarian-Serbian border section, the freight crossing points at Röszke, Tompa, and Hercegszántó were affected by the blockade in terms of both incoming and outgoing traffic.

green = no restriction, red = closed road, blue = detour in case of restrictions

In order to avoid congestion in border areas and traffic jams, the Hungarian police recommend that freight carriers use the following alternative routes:

  • On the M5 motorway towards the M43 motorway:

On the M5 motorway, exit onto the M43 motorway and continue towards Romania via the Csanádpalota (Nagylak II) motorway border crossing.

  • On the M4 motorway towards the Romanian border:

Use the Nagykereki (Bors II.) border crossing point towards Romania.

  • On the M6 motorway towards the Croatian border:

Given that Hercegszántó will also be completely closed, it will be prohibited to exit the M6 motorway in the direction of the Serbian border. The vehicles concerned should continue towards Croatia and use Croatian transit routes to reach their destination.

In the interests of traffic safety, parking regulations, and traffic sustainability, police ask drivers to observe the following:

  • Use of rest areas:

Please do not approach the closed border sections directly. For waiting purposes, please use the large-capacity truck parking areas located along the M1, M0, M5, and M6 motorways.

  • Capacity planning:

It is recommended to start planning your breaks from the western border section (Hegyeshalom/Rajka) and look for free parking spaces on the inner road sections.

  • Use of the hard shoulder:

Waiting in the hard shoulder is strictly prohibited and dangerous. The police will take action against those who wait there illegally.

  • Preparation:

Due to the uncertainty of the duration of the demonstration, please ensure you have sufficient fuel, food, and drinking water.

Before departure, please check the current situation on the Police Border Information website and pay attention to the digital traffic information signs located above the motorways.
