Visitors to Avita in the past two weeks are urged to monitor their health.
On 5 December, the authorities closed the Austrian Avita spa, Burgenland.at reports.
The spa in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, near Oberwart, is not only one of the best-known and most popular spas in the province, but in all of Austria – and it is also a favourite among Hungarian visitors.
The closure, which comes at a very inconvenient time from an economic perspective, was ordered because water samples taken during a routine inspection of the spa’s pools tested positive for Legionella.

At the same time, it emerged that a person who stayed at Avita and its adjoining hotel in November has been diagnosed with legionellosis (Legionnaires’ disease).
Authorities in Burgenland are now asking anyone who has visited the spa in the past 14 days to monitor their health.
Avita issued a statement on its Facebook page, emphasising that there is currently no proof of a direct link between the infection and the spa. Nonetheless, they are cooperating fully with the authorities and doing everything they can to clarify the situation.
The hotel has also been evacuated, and guests with reservations for the next two weeks are asked to contact the reception.
“In cooperation with the authorities, we will resume operations as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
According to the website, it is currently not possible to book a room before 20 December.
