Chinese Terracotta Warriors in Budapest

A unique exhibition in Europe can be visited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest until May 2026.

On 27 November, the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest opened its exhibition titled “The Terracotta Army of the First Chinese Emperor.”

The exhibition spans 1,000 years of history, presenting three significant dynastic periods from Chinese history. All exhibited material comes from Shaanxi Province, which served as the seat of China’s capitals during the millennia covered by the exhibition.

Visitors can view 129 outstanding pieces from nine cultural institutions in Shaanxi, including bronze artefacts, ceramics, gold and jade objects, as well as ten original figures from the world-famous and iconic Terracotta Army.

The exhibition, open until 25 May 2026, also features two unique burial site reconstructions: one depicting the tomb complex of the first Chinese emperor, and the other the tomb complex of the sixth ruler of the Han Dynasty.

Both reconstructions can be experienced spatially and through projection.

Gong Tao, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Hungary, emphasized that Chinese–Hungarian relations have become closer than ever in all areas, including cultural and social cooperation.
