The iconic centre building is closed and will remain so for some time.
On 2 June, Hévíz Thermal Lake issued a press release.
“On 18 March 2025, our institution’s management decided that building A and terrace B of the Lake Baths’ central bathing building would not be open to the public. According to the expert report on the building, its structural condition does not permit it to continue receiving guests.”
Here is a map showing the current situation:

They added:
“The waters of Lake Hévíz are impeccable, warm and still beneficial. The spa’s beach and beach buffet are open, as are the changing rooms and the wellness area in the Festetics Spa House. The indoor relaxation areas and the Vital Bar are also accessible from the Festetics Spa House. We wish all our guests a pleasant stay!”
What does this mean?
If you are staying in a hotel with pools and do not intend to swim in the famous lake, it will not affect your visit.

However, if you are staying in a small hotel or renting an apartment or room and intend to bathe in the thermal lake, you should bear in mind that the iconic central building is closed. This is an additional problem when the weather is bad and you need indoor swimming facilities.
How long is it closed for?
Nobody knows. It will take a lot of money and time to repair. It will probably take years, if not decades. It is said that a temporary ‘floating island’ will first be constructed to replace the legendary building. But for now, it’s just a plan — no concrete steps have been taken yet.
