In some days’ time the biggest Hungarian festival Sziget will start.
This year the event will take 8 days and nearly 400 thousand people are expected to arrive at the Danube island of the Hungarian capital city Budapest.
Among the headliners there are acts such as Snoop Dogg, the Killers, the LMFAO, the Korn, the Placebo, the Hurts, the Stone Roses, the Sum 41, the Pogues and many more.
Between 5 and 13 August on 25 stages nearly 300 concert will be given.
The Sziget celebrates its 20th birthday with a special ‘gift’.
This year, for the first time, you can join the concerts via YouTube life stream. The service, which will cover the three largest stages, will be launched at 1500 (CET) on 8 August and finished at late night 12 August.
You can find the details on the official Sziget YouTube channel.
Notes:
I was a keen Sziget-goer in the middle of the nineties collecting nice memories. That time Sziget gave the atmosphere of freedom, alternative culture, and the belief that the world could be a better place. At least for the community that gathered there.
By the end of the nineties everything had changed: banks, mobile companies and other giants arrived as sponsors.
As a consequence, I missed about a decade.
When I returned a couple of years ago, Sziget was exactly the same that its fans once had objected against: the symbol of consumer society and a kind of post-historic hedonism.
I took this photo in 2009. You can see more of them here. |
If you are looking for giant and entertaining concerts and beer at reasonable price, this is the perfect place for you.
If you need a bit more, perhaps you can find a better solution.
