An official delegation of this nature is perhaps unprecedented in Hungarian history.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar is scheduled to arrive in Kraków on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, from where he will travel by train to Warsaw later that evening.
He will hold talks with Polish leaders on May 20.
In addition to negotiating with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his cabinet, Magyar is scheduled to meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki—who was elected as the nominee of the Law and Justice (PiS) party and had met with Viktor Orbán in Budapest just days before the elections. The itinerary also includes consultations with the Marshals (speakers) of the Polish Sejm and Senate. Following these meetings, Magyar will travel to Gdańsk to meet with Lech Wałęsa, the legendary former leader of the Solidarity movement, according to a Substack post by foreign affairs investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi.
According to Panyi’s sources, Péter Magyar will be accompanied by six of his ministers on the trip, a move that is unprecedented in the history of Polish-Hungarian relations.
The Prime Minister’s traveling delegation is slated to include Foreign Minister Anita Orbán, Minister of Culture Zoltán Tarr, Minister of Economy and Energy István Kapitány, Minister of Defense Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy, and Minister of Agriculture Szabolcs Bóna. Chief National Security Advisor Péter Tóth will also be part of the delegation.
Péter Magyar will depart for Vienna on May 21 to hold talks with the Austrian government.
