Jeremy Wang is taking over as regional country director, while Adam Renyi-Vamos will handle the day-to-day operations of the Hungarian division.
Jeremy Wang will take over as head of BYD Hungary, replacing Jontey Lee, who has served as regional country director since the summer of 2024. Lee will continue his career within BYD’s international organization, where he will be responsible for the Saudi Arabian market.
Jeremy Wang has been serving as Regional Country Director at BYD Europe since April 2024. In his current role, he oversees not only Hungary but also Israel, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, and Slovenia. Prior to 2024, he played a key role in preparing the company’s Hungarian investment as the government relations lead for the Szeged plant, helping to build institutional partnerships and support the project’s development.
Ádám Rényi-Vámos will now oversee BYD Hungary’s retail and wholesale operations. The economist brings more than two decades of experience in the automotive sector, having previously worked as Commercial Director at Kia Hungary and held country director and sales operations leadership roles within Nissan’s Central European organization.
Founded in 2003, BYD Auto is making a multi-billion-euro investment to build a vehicle manufacturing plant in Szeged. The company has also announced that it will establish its European corporate and R&D headquarters in Budapest.
A few days ago, Szeged’s mayor, Botka László, said that the BYD factory has already hired nearly one thousand people and that trial production has begun. At the same time, the date of the official plant inauguration has not yet been announced.
Since its entry into the Hungarian market in 2023, the BYD brand has gained around a 4% share of new car sales, with more than 2,200 vehicles sold in 2025 alone.
