Never Leave Your Audi by the Roadside in Hungary

While the driver was dealing with a flat tire, the car was vandalized.

A man suffered a flat tire near Jászberény in eastern Hungary. He left his car unattended for a while, and by the time he returned, it had not only been broken into but completely smashed, reports the local news portal Szol24.hu.

The man himself described what happened in a Facebook post.

“I got a flat tire with my car between Farmos and Portelek, and since I couldn’t arrange a spare wheel, I had to leave the car there from Thursday evening at 8 p.m. until the next morning. When I went back for it, the car had been smashed to pieces. All the windows were broken, inside and out, and everything around the engine had been vandalized. Anyone who can provide reliable information about who did this will receive a cash reward.”

According to the man, public safety in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County has deteriorated so severely over the past 15–20 years that leaving a car unattended overnight almost inevitably leads to such an outcome.

This may be an exaggeration—and this is our own addition—but the incident is still instructive.

The owner of the damaged car has filed a police report and called in investigators, but according to commenters, it will not be easy to identify the perpetrator.

Lesson learned: In Hungary, don’t leave your Audi—or any other car—by the roadside.
