2,000 bicycles in 40 square kilometres – Upgraded bike share scheme launced in Budapest

MOL Bubi 3.0 is said to have better quality bicycles, complemented by e-bikes, and a bigger fleet, while application is easier to use.

The revamped Mol Bubi public bike-share scheme was launched on Monday in Budapest; the fleet, which is larger than before, now includes electric bikes.

At the launch of the new generation of Mol Bubi, Mayor Gergely Karácsony emphasised that Mol Bubi 3.0 will be superior to its predecessors in terms of both quality and quantity.

There will be far more bikes available in far more locations, the bikes will be easier to ride, and the Mol Bubi app will also be much easier to use.

The revamped public bike-share scheme will launch with 2,000 bikes, 500 of which are electric-assisted. This number will rise ‘very quickly’: 3,300 bikes will be available in the scheme, 800 of which will be electric. Furthermore, Mol Bubi now has an improved app.

The shared bike service, which was launched 12 years ago, is currently available across an area of approximately 40 square kilometres. The aim is for it to be available across 80 square kilometres in Budapest, at every public transport hub where more than 30,000 people change services.
