Vonatinfo, Hungary’s real-time tracker for passenger trains, went back online on Monday after a year-long hiatus.
In a post on Facebook, Transportation and Investment Minister David Vitezy noted that Janos Lazar, the transportation minister in the previous government, had suspended the tracker amid an increase in service interruptions with the aim of “concealing the problems facing the Hungarian railway“.
The tracker — at vonatinfo.mav.hu — is available to the public and does not require registration, he said.
The map tracks not only trains but also the suburbian (HÉV) trains operating in the Budapest metropolitan area.
Green indicates trains running on schedule or with minimal delays; yellow indicates delays of 6–14 minutes; orange indicates delays of 15–59 minutes; and red indicates delays of over one hour.
The map also features a station and train search function.
