The band is set to perform two concerts in the Hungarian capital for the first time in eight years, and there will be no shortage of related events.
A major Metallica exhibition is opening at the Hungarian Rock Hall of Fame museum, located in the RAM Colosseum, in connection with the world-famous American metal band’s double concert in Budapest.The Metallica relics, sourced from private collections, will be on display for nearly two months — from June 6 to August 1 — alongside the museum’s permanent exhibition.
The announcement was made by H-Music Hungary on Wednesday via MTI.
Metallica is returning to Budapest after an eight-year break, performing two concerts. As part of their M72 World Tour, the band will take the stage at Puskás Arena on June 11 and 13 with different setlists and support acts for each show.
The concert promoter Live Nation previously announced that the “Metallica Budapest Takeover” event on June 12 will include Kirk Hammett’s book and guitar presentation, film screenings, a blood donation drive, and tribute concerts.The newly announced Metallica exhibition at the Hungarian Rock Hall of Fame presents a selection of rare Metallica memorabilia from private collections.
The organizers are preparing a grand opening event on June 6, which will include a panel discussion.The museum is normally open on Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 to 18:00, but opening hours will be extended during concert week: the exhibition will also be accessible on Thursday, June 11, and Friday, June 12.
As part of the Metallica Budapest Takeover on June 12, guitarist Kirk Hammett will hold a book and guitar presentation at the Hungarian House of Music. The event will include a panel discussion about his book The Collection: Kirk Hammett, which showcases his Gibson guitar collection.
The Metallica Film Festival will also take place that day, where visitors can watch three concert films from different eras of the band with a single ticket: Cliff’ Em All, Cunning Stunts, and Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad de Mexico.
On the same day, Barba Negra will host the …And Tributes For All! event, where Hungarian tribute bands will pay homage to Metallica and their guests: Scary Guyz (Metallica), Silver Cord (Gojira), and Vulgar Display (Pantera).This will be followed by Fuel For The Night, a free afterparty at Akvárium Klub, where fans can enjoy the best Metallica and metal music videos and songs until dawn.
In collaboration with the Hungarian Red Cross, Metallica is also organizing a blood donation drive at the Budapest Arena on June 11 and 12. Every successful donor will receive a limited-edition Metallica T-shirt as a thank you.
The organizers are also setting up a special pop-up store in Allee Shopping Center (open from June 10 to 14), featuring a wide range of Metallica merchandise and photo walls that recreate the band’s iconic album covers.
