The Christmas market is also opening its doors these days.
A variety of programmes await revellers celebrating the capital’s birthday, including the return of the popular Metro Festival, the relaunch of the party tram, and the opening of the city’s Christmas market in City Hall Park, according to a statement by the Mayor’s Office.
The detailed program:
From 14 to 16 November, the Metro Festival, jointly organized with BKV, will offer a three-day programme featuring the art schools, choirs, orchestras and dance groups of the districts that joined Greater Budapest in 1950. During the celebrations, the metro stations will come alive with music, dance and communal singing.
On 14 November, Budapest Market Halls will open the Budapest Christmas 2025 fair in City Hall Park, where visitors can enjoy a skating rink, winter delicacies, and a wide selection of unique handmade products.

On 15 November, to mark the city’s birthday, Mayor Gergely Karácsony will present the Budapest Heroes Award to employees of the city’s public companies who serve Budapest every day, and who have distinguished themselves through professional excellence, community involvement, or personal dedication.
On 15 and 16 November, the much-loved Party Tram will once again take to the tracks, jointly organized by BKK, BKV, and BMK. Running from Deák Square to Kelenföld, the tram will offer passengers not only great music and dancing but also stunning views of Budapest’s evening lights. Boarding is possible at Deák Square after prior registration.
The celebration will culminate on 17 November, the anniversary of Greater Budapest’s founding, with the presentation of the For Budapest Awards, the Pro Urbe Budapest Awards, and the Honorary Citizen of Budapest titles.
As tradition dictates, the official ceremony — the Solemn General Assembly — will be held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which marks its 200th anniversary this year.
