The World’s Second Largest LEGO Factory Is in Hungary

The LEGO Group has been present in Hungary since 2008, and it has now inaugurated a new production unit in Nyíregyháza.

Following the opening of the BMW plant in Debrecen, another major industrial facility has been inaugurated in Eastern Hungary.

On September 30, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on site that, with an investment of 54 billion forints (135 million USD), the world’s second-largest LEGO factory has been established in Nyíregyháza.

This is the company’s only factory in Europe where every step of the production process takes place.

The Danish toy manufacturer, which employs 4,300 people and is the largest employer in the region, has now expanded its packaging and storage capacities. Thanks to these developments, the factory will be able to produce 30% more products in Hungary.

The company’s Nyíregyháza revenue exceeded 100 billion forints last year, setting a new record. Next year, the number of employees is expected to reach 5,000, another all-time high.

Szijjártó also highlighted that LEGO has been continuously expanding its use of renewable energy for years. Currently, 24,000 solar panels help power the factory, and this number will soon increase to 35,000.

With the completion of the latest expansion phase, the size of the site has more than doubled compared to its inauguration in 2014, growing from 120,000 to 262,000 square meters.

The LEGO Group established its Hungarian manufacturing subsidiary, LEGO Manufacturing Ltd., in Nyíregyháza in 2008.

Szijjártó also reported that in 2025, trade between Hungary and Denmark reached a record high, with exports to the Scandinavian country already increasing by more than 15% this year.

Although it was not mentioned at the inauguration ceremony, a 2023 report suggests that LEGO’s largest factory is located in Monterrey, Mexico.

When announcing the expansion, its CEO said: “Our factory in Monterrey is the largest LEGO manufacturing facility in the world.”
